Create Task from Inbound Client Question
You can now create or link tasks directly from inbound client questions in your portal, making it easier to delegate, track, and stay accountable for client requests.
  • Delegate with ease: Convert any client question into a task and assign it to the right teammate, just like you can with emails.
  • Stay organized: Linked tasks display a "Client Q" badge so you always know which tasks originated from a client question — and clicking it takes you straight to the original message.
  • Keep full context: Attachments and question details are accessible directly from the linked task, so nothing gets lost in the handoff.

  • Added documentation of the AI's reasoning when performing a reconciliation discrepancy analysis.
  • Gave users the option to switch between AI models when completing a reconciliation analysis.
  • Added support for csv bank transaction uploads for AI reconciliation analysis.

Real-Time Push Notifications in the Client Portal Mobile App
The Client Portal mobile app now supports push notifications, giving clients timely nudges for new messages, outstanding questions, and tax organizers.
  • Faster responses, faster closes:
    Clients are instantly notified of new messages and organizer requests (if enabled), reducing the back-and-forth that slows down your work.
  • No notification fatigue:
    Bulk questions and reminders are batched into a single alert, and clients can toggle notification types on or off directly in the app.
  • Simple setup:
    Notification settings respect your existing reminder digest schedule and portal configuration, so the experience works the way you've already set it up.

  • Users can now view and access e-signature requests from the client list, allowing for quicker status tracking.
  • E-signature requests can now be archived - allowing for saving a repository of prior requests while moving them out of open action items.
  • When bulk reassigning tasks to a new user, you can now choose between reassigning all open custom tasks and/or reassigning all closing tasks for a given client.
  • Admins can now self-serve and disable tax or close workflows when they are no longer relevant for a client.

Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements
This week's update focused on performance improvements and polishing up existing features to make your Double experience even better.
General Improvements
  • When creating a transaction with AI, or from the Receipts or Quick Add areas, you can now add a new category to your client's chart of accounts.
  • When making changes to AI prompts, you can save the changes by updating the existing saved prompt or choose to save it as a new prompt.
  • After generating a transaction using AI, you can now click on the "Thought for x seconds" link to see the full AI reasoning, leading to better insights and quicker fixes if the prompt needs an update.
  • Tax return projects can now be created for standalone tax years (not just next or previous year)
  • Added the option to completely remove accounts from Bank Feeds.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where some QBO accounts prompted users to “Refresh” on the Bank Feeds tab.
  • Fixed a bug where the formula builder allowed users to update formulas that referenced themselves.
  • Fixed a bug where the Prepare 1099s report would not load for some managers.

Create Expenses with AI
AI in Double now supports Expenses, giving you even more support for turning complex receipts or other documents into ready-to-post transactions. If you’re already using Double's AI for posting journal entries or bills, you can now apply the same time-saving workflows to expenses for more consistency and fewer manual steps.
  • Apply the same AI workflows you already use for Bills and JEs.
  • Save prompts once and reuse them across more instances of your repeatable but manually intensive work.

Settings for Clients in the Portal
Clients now have more control over their portal experience with new settings for managing contact information and notification preferences.
  • Clients can update their first name, last name, and phone number directly from the portal on web or mobile.
  • Client Admins can customize notification preferences to receive alerts for only their assigned items (default) or for all questions and requests across the portal.
  • Changes sync automatically with their contact information in Double.
General Improvements
  • Users can now choose to roll forward footnotes to each new close. The roll forward option can be disabled when the footnote is no longer relevant.
  • Sign-offs will now be updated when applying a task template to a client.
  • When a client uploads a document to an organizer, this detail will now be added to notification emails.
  • Newly created tasks will now automatically be ordered at the bottom of the relevant task section.
  • Improved design of saved AI prompt tables.

  • Fixed a bug where posting a bank feed transaction from the Transaction Questions table resulted in a “Something went wrong” error.

Cash Basis Fixed Asset Schedules
You can now create fixed asset depreciation schedules for cash-basis clients based on bill payments, not just bill dates. For fixed asset bills, Double automatically tracks partial and full payments, allocating paid amounts to the fixed asset schedule as they occur.
Once a bill is fully paid, the depreciation can default to begin on the final payment date. This ensures fixed assets for cash-basis clients are tracked accurately while keeping schedules up to date as payments come in over time.

  • Updated the display for deleted client contacts to continue showing the contact's name on questions and responses even after deletion.

📎 Attachment Roll Forward for Closing Tasks
You can now automatically carry forward selected task attachments - like recurring Excel workbooks - into each new close, eliminating the need to re-upload the same files every month.
  • Choose which attachments should roll forward on a per-task basis (all files default to not rolling forward).
  • When a new close is created, files marked to roll forward are copied and attached to the corresponding tasks automatically—even when creating past closes, using the latest close as the source.

  • Improved the usability of footnotes, making it easier and more intuitive to apply footnotes across multiple reports.
  • Added an EFile4Biz export option in the default and custom 1099s reports.
  • Enhanced the performance of the Prepare 1099s report to make certain actions quicker in the vendor table.

You can now import Quickbooks Online bank feed rules into Double's AI bank feeds, eliminating the need to recreate rules.
