I'm evaluating moving our tax return preparation workflow from TaxDome to Double's Tax Suite, and I wanted to flag one workflow gap that's important for our firm — and likely for other firms considering the switch.
The workflow we rely on today: In TaxDome, once a return is complete, the Form 8879 e-signature request is locked to an invoice. The client must pay the invoice before they can access and sign the 8879. This ensures we get paid before the return is filed, and it eliminates the AR chase that used to happen after filing.
What I'd love to see in Double:
Client-facing invoicing in the Client Portal — the ability to send invoices to clients and collect payment (Stripe/ACH/card).
Payment-gated e-signature requests — the option to require an invoice be paid before a signature request (especially the 8879) becomes available to the client.
Bonus: automated status transitions when payment is received (e.g., auto-move the return from "Awaiting Payment" to "Ready to File").
