If there are a lot of questions in the portal, its hard to see which ones client has responded to. The question should change colour or show somewhere it has been answered so client can easily see what is left

Hey Julie, we actually have two systems in place for this.
First, you can use the filters in the top-right corner to show only questions where the client has responded.
Second, we include visual tags for each question status: Waiting, Responded, and Resolved.
